Celtic Coin
An ancient British warlike tribe battled with the invading Roman legions under the Emperor Claudius, dating to this exact period, silver slaters from this tribe were struck. Showing fine Celtic imagery, these were the only silver stater ever struck in Britain. Almost 2000 years old.
Edward I
Edward I ruled England with stern determination. He introduced a new reformed currency in 1279 which would be the envy of Europe. These long cross type coins showing the bust of Edward are in nice condition.
Musket Balls
These balls would have been made at home by the fire using a scissor-like mould c.1700 Set of mounted musket balls.
Thimble and Pin
These 17th century thimbles are made of metal and were used both in leather and cloth manufacture. These were found in the River Thames.
Onion flasks
Wine that flowed in the 1700s would often be served in a glass onion bottle so named because of its shape. We have a collection which were discovered on a Dutch shipwreck.
Illuminated Pages
Monks in monasteries created the most magnificent decorated or illuminated manuscripts to reflect the glory of God. Dating to 13th Century and written in latin, these leaves come from the Old Testament. Each page is identified and beautifully framed.
Pewter Spoon
From the tables of the Tudor and Stuart’s gentry this pewter spoon dates from about 1600, generally the bowls are stamped with the crowned rose maker’s mark.
